I guess it's time for me to weigh in...

Obama: Syria's Actions Not 'Imminent, Direct Threat' to US...There seems to be two discussions going on in the issue of Syria...One is the Administrations contention that Syria needs to be reminded that the use of chemical weapons is universally considered a crime against humanity and in and of itself would qualify Assad for a noose and a trap door, but, that we are not interested in regime change as that would surely create more havoc and not a solution to the current conflict that is happening in Syria. Unfortunately Obama didn't speak  simply enough so that the neo-cons would understand when he made the statement concerning the red line and what it signified...

The red line represented the point at which the world, not Obama individually, would be compelled to take action. If it can be proven who actually used the chemical weapons, then the proper course of action would be determined by the world community.

unfortunately to the right wing this means acting in a manner that will show the world how powerful the U.S. is and not addressing the problem at hand. During the course of the exercise they have either been critical of Obama's for being to aggressive or being not aggressive enough. Their main agenda being to portray Obama in a bad light no matter what direction he proposes.

They lament that Obama should have acted immediately, that delaying action has given the Syrians the time to hide all their weapons and move their assets. They don't seem to understand that this, in and of itself, makes it harder for Assad to wage his battles, not to mention that it also gave us the opportunity to observe the assets and their movement.

The best thing that could happen would be that the house would vote no on taking any military action and Obama abides by their decision, and does what he does best...community organizing on a world level. Any other course of action would be a waste of money and accomplish nothing.  If we can prove to the Russians that Assad authorized the use of gas then they would be forced to join the call for action in Syria or be seen as facilitators of the crimes. We have no vested interest in seeing either side prevail in Syria, best case scenario is that they all kill each other off. Then go in and pick up the pieces and put them back together for the benefit of the people of Syria.
